Yep, that's me - Impervious Woman - out on a horseback ride on a frosty winter morning. Let's catalog the apparel, shall we...wind proof hat, windproof face guard, wind proof fleece gloves, insulated coverall layered over toasty fleece and down, and wool lined pack boots! Mmmm, warm. Because while horses are arcticly adapted, I'm not. But it's so worth it to go outside and play. The blanket of new snow makes everything look fresh, it's fun to watch your breath fog the air (not so fun with glasses when you come inside, though), and I love the squelch of the snow under my horse's hooves. And the dogs become puppies again, romping about, taking snow baths, and snoofing vigorously whenever they run across rabbit tracks. And best of all is my reward when I get home - happy horses, tired dogs and....hot chocolate!
First I must tell you, there is no off season for my horses. We ride year round. Cold or hot, wet or dry, I'd rather be on a horse. And if you could ask my horses...well, they might say something about how nice it is to graze, but they'll also say they like to get out and go places. And this has been a great year for it. We were able to get on the trails in the high country earlier than usual and it's stayed nice, both up there and down here. It's also been great to see so many friends riding, training, showing and just plain enjoying their horses. So if you see me on the trail, wave. Or better yet, ride on over and get acquainted. Wishing you Many Happy Hoofprints, Dawn
